WHO IS JESUS CHRIST
John 4:22-24
22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
(KJV)
God does not only desire for us to worship him in spirit, but also in truth.
What is truth? Truth is that God wants us to know who he is. Who is Jesus Christ and how many Gods do we have.
God wants us to know who he is. In this study we are going to find out how many Gods we have and what is his name.
Isa 9:6
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
(KJV)
According to Isa 9:6, unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government (world) shall be upon his shoulder. (Now we will get into the attributes or characteristics that describe who that child to be born is and that son to be given.) The word said that he is Wonderful, he is a Counsellor, He is The mighty God (the word The in front of mighty God, signify that he is the one and only God), The everlasting Father (the word The in front of Everlasting Father, signify that he is the one and only Everlasting Father with no beginning or ending), The Prince of Peace.
Let’s examine the attributes or characteristics of The mighty God. How many Gods do we have?
Isa 43:10-11
10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
(KJV)
Here in this set of scriptures, the word tells us that there is only one God and there is none before him, neither shall there be any after him. He is God, he is God all alone, and he is God all by himself. But what about Isa 9:6? The child to be born and the son to be given, the Bible said that he would be The mighty God (The one and only God), how can this be? It seems like the word contradicts itself. But, we know that this is impossible, because according to I Cor 14:33, God is not the author of confusion. So let’s examine the word some more.
Isa 44:6
6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
(KJV)
**What about Isa 9:6…The mighty God?
Isa 44:8
8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
(KJV)
If there is no God beside him and he don’t know any other God, how can this child to be born and son to be given, be The mighty God (The one and only)? It seems like we have two gods, but we don’t, God is trying to tell us something in Isa 9:6. Let’s examine some more scriptures.
Isa 45:5-6
5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.
(KJV)
Here it is again that he is God all alone, but what about Isa 9:6? (The child to be born and son to be given, he is The mighty God, the one and only God.)
Isa 45:18
18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
(KJV)
Isa 45:21-22
21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
(KJV)
The word is made plain to us again that there is only one God.
Isa 46:9
9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
(KJV)
Every scripture that we read in the book of Isaiah establish that there is only one God, except for Isa 9:6. But God was trying to tell us something in Isa 9:6. The word of God does not contradict itself. Now we will bring it together and see what God was trying to tell us.
1 Tim 3:16
16 And without controversy (disagreement) great is the mystery (not obvious to understand) of godliness: (Anything that is written before an colon is explain by that written after the colon. The writer will now explain the mystery (not obvious to understand) of godliness.) God (How many Gods did we established according to the book of Isaiah? One.) was manifest (Appear, made, made known, reveal) in the flesh (So God which is one, was made known, reveal appear in the flesh), justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
(KJV)
Isaiah made the correct statement in Isa 9:6, “For unto us a child is born and unto us a son is given…his name shall be Wonderful, Counsellor, The Might God…etc.”, because that child to be born and son to be given was the one true God manifest (reveal, made known, shown) in the flesh.
John 1:1
CHAPTER 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(KJV)
How can the word be with God and be God at the same time?
The word, word that is used in this passage of scriptures means Logos in Greek. Logos in Greek means plan or thought. Let’s use the word plan in place of word.
John 1:1
CHAPTER 1
1 In the beginning was the Plan, and the Plan was with God, and the Plan was God.
(KJV)
What do we mean by plan?
God in his foreknowledge knew man was going to sin, so God had a plan to redeem mankind back to himself. According to Gen 3:15, it would come through the seed of a woman. God, himself, according to I Tim 3:16, would roll himself up in Flesh. II Cor 5:19 says “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself…etc.”.
This plan that God had was only in the mind of God until the time was right (Gal 4:4). God had this plan before the foundation of the world. In the beginning was a plan, and the plan was with God, where? In the mind of God, and the plan was God. How can the plan be God? Because in the mind of God, he seen himself carrying out his own redemption plan.
Rev 13:8
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
(KJV)
We know that the lamb that the scripture is talking about, is Jesus (John 1:29). How was he slain from the foundation of the world? Only in the mind of God, because we don’t read about a lamb being slain in Genesis chapter one.
1 Pet 1:18-20
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
(KJV)
The lamb was foreordained before the foundation of the world, where? In the mind of God, but was manifest (reveal, made known, shown) in these times (Gal 4:4) for you.
According to John 1:1, “In the beginning was a plan, and the plan was with God (In his mind), and the plan was God (God saw himself carry out his own redemption plan).”
So now we understand what the word, word means.
John 1:1
CHAPTER 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(KJV)
John 1:3
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
(KJV)
The word him in verse 3 is referring to the word in verse one, and who is the word? The word is God, and how many Gods do we have according to the scriptures we read in the book of Isaiah? Only one!
John 1:10
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
(KJV)
The word he in verse 10 is referring to the word in verse one, and who is the word? The word is God, and how many Gods do we have according to the scriptures we read in the book of Isaiah? Only one!
John 1:14
14 And the Word (Which is God, and there is only one God) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (This is the only flesh that God has begotten)
(KJV)
To sum this up, the word which is God, and there is only one God was made flesh and dwelt among us and his name is Jesus.
Now we want to take a look at another attribute of this child to be born and son to be given, this attribute is The Everlasting Father.
Isa 9:6
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
(KJV)
When we talk about The everlasting Father, we are speaking in terms of no beginning and no ending, something that have always been.
If The everlasting Father has no beginning and no ending, how can this child to be born, and son to be given, be The everlasting Father (No beginning and no ending)?
Mal 2:10
Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us?
If we have only one Father, how can this child to be born and son to be given, be The everlasting Father? Let’s look at a few more scriptures.
Matt 23:9
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
(KJV)
Again, if we only have one Father that dwells in heaven, how can this child to be born and son to be given be The everlasting Father?
Eph 4:6
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
(KJV)
Here it is again, one God and Father of all. There is only one Father, but according to Isa 9:6, the child to be born and son to be given, he is The everlasting Father.
John 8:41
41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
(KJV)
All the scriptures we have read up until this point clearly establish that there is only one Father, but what about Isa 9:6(A child to be born a son to be given…The everlasting Father)?
Now we will bring this altogether according to the next scriptures that we will read.
John 14:6-9
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
When you read this scripture, it seem like a father-son relationship, but what was Jesus really saying when he made that statement in verse 6?
Jesus said no man cometh unto the Father but by me. What happens is that people try to build a relationship with God and then with Jesus Christ. It is impossible to build a relationship with the Father, without first building a relationship with Jesus. Why? Because when you come to know who Jesus is, you will know that Jesus is The Father. But if you never know who Jesus is, you will never know the Father, because he was the Father manifest (reveal, made known) in the flesh. That is why he said no man cometh unto the Father but by me, because when you know whom Jesus is, again you will know that he is The Father.
Look at verse seven.
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth (Now on) ye know him, and have seen him.
How could Jesus make that statement in verse seven? Because he was The Father revealed in the flesh.
Philip is just like some of us. Jesus just told him that when he has seen him, you have seen the Father, but Philip did not understand. Look at what he said in the next verse.
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
(KJV)
He said, “Philip I been with you all of this time and you don’t even know me?” He saith unto him, “he that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” The reason why Philip asked this question, is because he really did not know who Jesus is, and when you know who Jesus is, you will know that he is the Father.
To sum this up, Jesus was the Father revealed in the flesh.
Up until this point we have looked at two attributes, now we’ll look at the third, the Holy Ghost.
Matt 28:19
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
(KJV)
We know the name of the Father is Jesus, and the name of the son is Jesus, but what about the Holy Ghost? The Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit, who is the same, has a name. We will find out what the name of the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit is.
First we need to find out how many Spirits we have.
Eph 4:4
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
(KJV)
There is only one Spirit, and we want to know who is that one Spirit.
2 Cor 3:17
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
(KJV)
There is only one Spirit and the Lord is that one Spirit. Now we will see how many Lords we have.
Eph 4:5
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
(KJV)
According to this scripture we have one Lord which is that one Spirit.
John 4:24
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
(KJV)
The scripture is very plain here, that God is a Spirit, and if God is a Spirit and there is one Spirit, then the Lord must be God which is that one Spirit.
Deut 6:4
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: (Which is that one Spirit)
(KJV)
Jer 10:10
10 But the LORD (Who is the Lord? That one Spirit) is the true God (The Lord is the true God who is that one Spirit), he is the living God and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
(KJV)
Before we read the next set of scriptures, there is something we need to understand. Whenever the apostle Paul mentioned the word Lord, he is talking about God which is a Spirit (John 4:24), and there is only one Spirit who is Jehovah God. Paul (Saul) persecuted the church of Jesus Christ, because they believed that Jesus was God. Paul only believed in one God and that was Jehovah who lives in the heavens. So whenever Paul mentioned the Lord, he is talking about God that lives in heaven which is a Spirit.
Acts 9:1-5
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way (Persuasion or belief), whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord?(The Spirit which is one and whom is God) And the Lord (Which is that one Spirit II Cor 3:17) said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
(KJV)
The Holy Ghost (Spirit) is Jesus.
That is why the Apostles in the book of ACTS baptized everyone in the name of Jesus Christ, because they knew the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, and that name is Jesus.
They did not repeat what Jesus said in Matthew 28:19, they obeyed what Jesus said and baptized people in the name of Jesus. Jesus is the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
There is only one God, but three different offices or functions of God. God became Father when he created, Son when he took on flesh, and Holy Ghost when he is active in the life of his creation.
