The Spoken Word of God

Rom 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

Matt 8:5-11 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. 7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

There is power in the spoken Word of God. God has chosen His Word as the means whereby He reveals His self to us. God could have created the universe with his hands. God could have created everything with His thoughts. From the very beginning, however, God ordained that it would be His spoken Word that has the power to create something out of nothing. And so it was by God saying "Let there be light." And light with all of it's complexity and power was created out of nothing. The God wanted to divide the light from the darkness and so He spoke and called the light "Day" and the darkness "Night." As He spoke these words, the concept of day and night that you and I know today was created. It was created by the spoken Word of God. God created the heavens and the stars and the waters in the same way. He spoke it into existence and then brought order to it through further spoken words. The only thing that was not "spoken into existence" was humanity. Humanity was "formed" from the dust of the ground. The word for "formed" in the Hebrew means "to shape as a potter." Humanity was the only thing that was not spoken into existence and the reason is that humanity as we know it, was the only thing that was created in the image of God.

Everything that I have spoken to you is probably not profound to you and may have not given you great revelation yet, but I want to impress upon you the power of the SPOKEN Word of God. It was the only thing that I can find in the universe that has the power to make something out of nothing. It is the only thing that I can find that is guaranteed to change whatever it addresses. Simply put, the most powerful force in the universe is not the gravitational pull of galaxies nor the splitting of an atom. The most powerful force in existence is the SPOKEN WORD OF GOD!

Scientists are amazed at the complexity of the animals and the plant life of the world. Yet it was created by God simply stating "Let there be life." Scientists are amazed at the perfect balance of chemicals and elements that make life possible upon this planet, and yet the entire planet was created by God simply speaking "let dry land appear...and let it be called Earth." God didn't say "let oxygen be created and let it make up 49.5 % of the environment Now let silicate carbon be created and let it have the ability to change from complex form to another form and let's call that process fire. Now let's see we must make nitrogen and...." When God stated that there would be an earth, the complex chemicals and processes and delicate balances needed to sustain life were created automatically. It is the power of the spoken Word of God.

Men are different. If we were to try to create something, we begin by creating all of the small parts and trying to make them into the whole. We have the "lego" mentality. We will try and try to fit parts together to make them into what we want to be. But God is not like that. God speaks what He wants the end result to be and then the parts automatically come together. We need to "letgo of the leggo" and begin to see things like God sees! He sees the end from the beginning.

With such an emphasis upon the Spoken Word of God, I find it interesting that God moved upon WRITERS to WRITE the Word of God for us to have today. That is, the Word of God that we have today is in written form. I believe that the Word of God has all the answers for the world today. I believe the Word of God has the power to transform every part of any life. I believe that the Word of God addresses every area of the world and a person's life that is in trouble. But if that is so, then how come all of the world's troubles did not disappear the first time the words were penned to paper? How come there is still war and sickness and sin when the Bible declares peace, healing, and forgiveness? BECAUSE THE WORD OF GOD HAS TO BE SPOKEN IN ORDER TO HAVE A CREATIVE EFFECT! Just having the Word of God in a book on a shelf does a person no good, but when the person begins to SPEAK the Word of God in faith believing, THAT IS WHEN THE POWER OF THE WORD OF GOD BECOMES REVEALED!

When you were baptized in Jesus' name and received this precious Holy Ghost, you began the process of enacting the Word of God in your life. God immediately spoke His will into existence. Everything in your life that will happen in the future immediately changed and formed to God's perfect will for your life. The Bible says that at that moment, old things were passed away and "all things became new." The creative process of God was enacted when you received God's Spirit. But when you received the Holy Ghost, what else happened? You began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit of God gave the utterance. Notice that you probably had no idea what you were saying and you were not choosing the words that you spoke in the heavenly language, but God was speaking through your tongue! Why would He choose to do that? Because the spoken Word of God was coming forth out of your mouth! The change that came in your life came from when the Word of God was spoken forth! What exactly God was saying through you wasn't important as the effect of God speaking through you: your eternal destiny was changed and you became a new creature! That's the power of the Spoken Word of God!

Reading the written Word of God is important. It was through reading the Word of God that you had faith that God could do the same for you. But just reading about what God has promised is not enough! You must allow the Word of God to be spoken in your life for it to have power! Too many Christians are reading the Word of God but not speaking the Word of God in faith! There's power in speaking the Word of God in your life!

Why do we make such a big deal about what name is SPOKEN at water baptism? Because it's not the water that washes your sins away and applies the blood of Jesus, but rather the combination of the faith that comes from reading and obeying the written word of God combined with the Word of God being SPOKEN! The Spoken Word of God is indeed the most powerful force in the universe!

Ezekiel was a called prophet of God. One day God made a strange request that has intrigued people ever since. God told Ezekiel to go to a valley that had been the scene of many wars and was covered with the bones of dead men. And God told Ezekiel to prophesy to those bones that they might live. Now I know that there are many sermons that can be preached from this passage of scripture and that in context the bones represented the Jewish people coming together from all over the world and becoming a nation and a people again. But I would like to point out another principle hidden within these verses:

Ezek 37:1-14 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones, 2 And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry. 3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest. 4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. 5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: 6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

What I want you to notice is that the Word of the Lord for the bones was given to the prophet. The word that was given to the prophet foretold exactly what was going to happen to the bones, but my question is this: when God gave the Word of God to the prophet, did what He said immediately come to pass? No. After God had given His Word to the prophet, the bones were still laying there. But Ezekiel began to SPEAK the Word of God:

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. 8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

When Ezekiel began to speak the Word of God, there was a shaking in those old bones and suddenly something began to happen. Ezekiel didn't say anything else but what the Word of the Lord that had been spoken to him, but when the MAN began to SPEAK THE WORD OF GOD, something began to move!

9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

Again it was when Ezekiel spoke the Word of God that what God had said came into existence!

Too many of us are reading the Word of God and we see the promises there and we wish for those things to happen in our lives and in our families. But the reason that we are not seeing them happen is because we are not speaking the Word of God into our lives. There is a difference between reading about what God can do and speaking the Word of God to our situation! We alone were created in the image of God, and that means that God desires for His spoken Word to change the world today, but He is waiting on humanity to get the revelation that it is up to us to speak out the Word of the Lord!

This is why study is so important, because if you don't know what the Word of God says, how can you speak it?! This is also why prayer is important! But HOW you pray has a lot to do with whether or not you see the hand of God moving in your life! The "effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." God wants someone who will pray fervently. People who have problems praying fervently, usually are not praying the Word of God. People who have problems getting a prayer life going and are timid in their prayers are usually people who pray according to their own will or are trying to pray with their own words. But there is power when we can say "God your word says that you will pour out your Spirit upon all flesh!" "God, ALL FLESH means my family!" "God I'm asking you to perform your Word!" "Fill my family with the Holy Ghost!" "Use me to reveal truth to them!" That is fervent praying and it comes from Speaking the Word.

But most Christians pray like this: "God I don't see how you can do it, but please if you could save my family." "God I don't see how you can reach uncle so and so, he's such an alcoholic, and God you know how cousin so and so feels about our church" "God please send somebody else to come and win my family for me." "God help somehow if it be possible, if it be your will, if God you think that you can do it, please fill my family with the Holy Ghost." That is a weak prayer that God is not going to answer. It lacks fervency because you are not "speaking the Word of God!" We are trying to pray for all the pieces to line up exactly so that God would be able to move, but God doesn't work that way! The hardness of their hearts and the past opinions and actions of your family doesn't bother God! He filled the mass-murder, blasphemer Saul/Paul with the Holy Ghost! The problem isn't that your family is beyond reach but because you aren't boldly speaking the Word of God!

And then the devil comes and tries to get you to doubt the Word of God. He says "see I told you God can't pour out His Spirit upon all flesh. That was for them back in the olden days. I told you that your family was too hard." The problem is not that God's Word isn't true, but that you have not spoken the Word of God into your situation! God wants to move and God's will is to pour out His Spirit upon all flesh, but when we ask wavering in faith and ask timidly, or we do not ask according to God's Word, we "ask amiss" and God cannot move because the power comes when the Word of God is spoken!

But oh, if we could ever get the revelation that Ezekiel had and begin to speak the Word of God into situations. It doesn't matter how bleak the situation and how dry the bones, there will come a shaking and a stirring and a coming together for God's purpose. God specializes in taking the spiritually dry and destitute and forming them into a mighty army! How does He do it? Through men speaking the Word of God!

I must make this disclaimer. I am not preaching a "blab it and grab it gospel." There is a movement in this world that teaches that all a person has to do is state anything believing and that God will do it for them. Their prayers are usually something like "God, give me a Rolls-Royce!" Or "God give me a million dollars!"

That is not speaking God's Word, that is speaking their own words. There is no power in speaking our own words or according to our own will besides what power we have as humans. What I am preaching is the power that is already available to us through the promises of God that are already written down but that we don't see because we do not speak them in faith! The reason that praying and speaking the Word of God is so powerful is because it is the promises of God and not of man!

Really, when we speak our own will or words trying to make something happen, it is not a sign of faith but a sign that we doubt God. When Sarah first heard the promise of God that she would have a child in her old age, she did not believe. She even later laughed at the promises of God. The reason that Sarah did not conceive at first was not because of God, but rather because she refused to speak the promise of the Word of the Lord. In fact she even spoke against the Word of the Lord and said:

Gen 16:2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

God had actually already promised Abraham that He would have a son. But rather than speak the Word of God in faith and watch the miraculous plan of God unfold, Sarah tried to bring it into existence by putting the various pieces together. That plan, of course, failed miserably. Faith in ourselves is Doubt in God! But somewhere through the years, Sarah spoke the Word of God with faith.

Heb 11:11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Somewhere Sarah had a change of heart and rather than speak negativity and doubt the Word of God and try to fulfill the promises of God on her own, she began to judge God faithful! The fact that Isaac was born is proof that somewhere, despite her earlier unbelief, Sarah had began to speak the Word of the Lord! When she did, her situation turned around! You may have not been recently praying faith. You might have been praying for your own will to come true, but that doesn't mean that you are doomed to a lifetime of unanswered prayers. Get the revelation that it took Sarah years to realize: He is faithful who has promised and God speaks of things that aren't as though they were! Get the Word of God for your situation and claim it!

Most of us are familiar with the story of the Centurion that came to Jesus and asked for healing for his servant.

Jesus was amazed at this man's faith and told His disciples that this was the greatest faith that He had ever seen! What kind of faith? A faith that understood the power of the Spoken Word of God! And Jesus went on to prophesy that many would come from all over the world and sit with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven! Who would those people be? People who get a revelation of the power of the spoken Word of God! People who trust less in what the situation looks like and more in what God's Word has to say about it! People who will fervently and verbally enact the Word of God in their lives! The greatest faith in all of the earth is putting total trust in the power of the Spoken Word of God!

I would like to expound one more scripture before we enact the Word of the Lord.

1 Pet 1:9-12 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. 10 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: 11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

We always preach and rightfully so that the angels desire to look into our salvation. That is very much true. The Bible says that the angels in heaven rejoice when one sinner repents! The angels wish that they could experience the power of the infilling of the Holy Ghost and the power of the blood of Jesus name. And that goes for the good angels and the bad angels. The demons also wish that they could be saved. They desire to "look into" our salvation. The word in the Greek here for "look into" means "to stoop over and examine carefully" or "to curiously examine."

But I want you to notice exactly what the scripture states in verse 12. It states "which thingS" the angels desire to look into. There's more than one thing mentioned in the preceding verses that the angels desire to look into. So what else is mentioned in these verses besides salvation? The preaching of the Word of God.

When you begin to speak the Word of God in areas of your life that needs it, the angels -- both good and bad -- begin to sit up and take notice. Nothing stirs up the spiritual world like a child of God who begins to proclaim the Word of God! Why? Because the spiritual world knows the power of the spoken Word of God! They know that you have just enacted the most powerful force in the world. And so they begin to examine it carefully. They begin to try to predict when and what will happen because they know that something has to happen when the Word of God is spoken into a situation!

{Adlib the Story of your mother and brother in Anchorage, Alaska when the person began to try to break into the house and your mother began to pray the Word of the Lord in the 91st Psalm.

Ps 91:1-16 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. 14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Deut 6:6-9 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

Now that we know the most powerful thing that we can do is to Speak the Word of God, let's put it into practice. I challenge you to forget about what the situation looks like and speak what God's Word has to say about it. Here are some scriptures for your situations:

For those of you who are battling the spirit of fear in your life, use Psalm 91 listed above.

For those of you who have unsaved loved ones: here are some scriptures to speak:

2 Pet 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Acts 2:17-18 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

For those of you who are sick or know somebody battling illness here are your scriptures:

1 Pet 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Mark 16:17-18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

For those of you who need a boost of faith that God can touch the impossible:

Gen 18:14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

And then we are going to pray together for revival:

Deut 28:1-13 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: 2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. 3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. 4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. 5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. 6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. 7 The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. 8 The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 9 The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways. 10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee. 11 And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee. 12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. 13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

Speak the Word of God! God is no respecter of persons! Utilize the most powerful force in universe!
